Felix Auger-Aliassime lost but Bianca Andreescu and Denis Shapovalov won their matches in the first round at Wimbledon.

Montreal's Felix Auger-Aliassime was knocked out in the first round, while Mississauga, Ont.'s Bianca Andreescu and Richmond Hill, Ont. native Denis Shapovalov both advanced to the second round.

Auger-Alissime's defeat came at the hands of American player Maxime Cressy, who bested the No. 6 ranked player of the tournament in four sets: 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6. Andreescu continued her successful grass-court season with a convincing 6-1, 6-3 win over Emina Bektas. Andreescu won 91 per cent of first-serve points and converted five of 10 break-point chances in a match that took just 54 minutes to complete.She is also coming off her first grass-court final, making it to the championship match last week at Bad Homburg, Germany, before falling 6-7 , 6-4, 6-4 to France's Caroline Garcia.Shapovalov fended off French player Arthur Rinderknech in five sets, winning 6-1, 6-7, 6-7, 6-4, 6-1.
