Last year, Statistics Canada says, there were 55,000 claimants, showing the pace of growth had slowed, but the total was well above the previous peak for claimants a decade earlier

Details from the national statistics agency also show that asylum claimants tend to be younger than the general population in Canada, and most are male.

Economically, asylum-seekers fare similarly to other immigrant groups – the longer they are in the country, the higher their average salaries and wages.

So that’s 0.14% of total population of Canada are trying to claim asylum. Funny how some federal and provincial parties never use percentages because Canadians would understand how ridiculous their “crisis” comments would be.

The problem will always be that one side views asylum seekers as additional votes without any care for long-term effects of veracity of the claims being made.

Only stands to reason...while we focus on the border crossing, the reality is that there is a humanitarian crisis in the Middle East (ie: Syria and etc) that hasn't gone away and won't any time soon. The tensions Trump is stoking all over the planet isn't helping to say the least
