On Sept. 24, 2018, two officers who were on patrol encountered a man in a stolen truck. The officers followed the truck while awaiting backup, according to an Alberta Serious Incident Response Team document. The driver backed up again, hit the police vehicle, drove onto the neighbour’s yards and collided with a garage. In that time, the other officer fired five gunshots and hit one of the vehicle’s tires. The stolen vehicle continued to drive erratically and was later found with a flat tire. The driver was arrested with superficial lacerations from a police dog that had been deployed to find him.Article content“The subject officer’s use of force was proportionate, necessary and reasonable,” said ASIRT. “As a result, there are no reasonable grounds to believe that a criminal offence was committed.”
