The incidents prompted We’koqma’q First Nation to issue an emergency alert via their Everbridge system to notify residents in the area of the incident.Chief Annie Bernard-Daisley updated the community on the incident via a Facebook live video Wednesday evening.

After precautions were taken to ensure the community was safe, Bernard-Daisley said surveillance footage was used ‘to identify the person responsible’ and at 2:56 p.m. an arrest was made by the RCMP and ‘all weapons were seized.’“I just want to make sure that you all know that every avenue was taken today to protect our community.”

A second call was received a few minutes later indicating a vehicle travelling through We’koqma’q First Nation on Hwy. 105 had been struck by a bullet. The vehicle was occupied at the time, but no injuries were reported. The vehicle struck was not believed to have been targeted, according to the initial RCMP press release.Later that morning, RCMP responded to a report of an overnight break-in to a hardware store on Highway 105 in Whycocomagh.
