Retired P.E.I. Supreme Court Chief Justice Kenneth R. MacDonald was appointed to the P.E.I. Supreme Court in 1977. The P.E.I. Court of Appeal announced MacDonald died earlier this week. - FileCHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Retired P.E.I.Supreme Court Chief Justice Kenneth R. MacDonald died earlier this week, the P.E.I. appeal court announced Thursday.

MacDonald was appointed to the P.E.I. Supreme Court in 1977. He served as chief justice of the trial division from 1987 to 2001."Chief Justice MacDonald served the court and the people of Prince Edward Island honourably for more than three decades," a statement from the P.E.I. Court of Appeal said. "On behalf of the Supreme Court of Prince Edward Island, the Prince Edward Island Court of Appeal and on behalf of the Law Society of Prince Edward Island we extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends."
