We need to make sure that everyone is clear on what one can and cannot say to the attorney-general in the context of a prosecution, and in particular the decision on whether or not to enter into a …

The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights has now held multiple meetings and heard from 10 witnesses on issues involving the prosecution of SNC-Lavalin. As chair, I have a unique role. I do not vote and must enforce Parliamentary rules in a fair way. Given the subject matter, once we began hearing from witnesses, I took the unusual precaution of stating that I would not give my opinion publicly until we completed witness testimony.

As stated on the Department of Justice website, a main purpose of remediation agreements is to reduce the harm that a criminal conviction of an organization could have for employees, shareholders and other third parties who did not take part in the offence. It is the duty of the attorney-general to consider such facts seriously and on an ongoing basis.

It is hard to determine if behaviour is ethical when rules are ambiguous. In this case, the law is unclear. It is based on a 1951 speech in the House of Lords where the then attorney-general of England and Wales set out his view of what is or is not appropriate in interaction between the attorney-general and other officials.

This seriously can't keep going. Can't the Liberals see how terrible this is? Lol

I found the chair extremely fair and dexterous in handling the hearings. His op ed is devoid of hyperbole and provides an assessment of the ‘new law’ situation that is clear and easy to understand. Most importantly he charts a path forward.

What a comedian

goofybastard

AHousefather Nobody believes you.

How about the truth

Ah I see. So Trudeau wanted to save 9k jobs, and not because it was in the national economic interest. Gotcha.

Nothing to see here Canada. Oh such pretty words. He could've written that for the Star and the gullible would have swallowed it. It dovetails the narrative beautifully. But it's avoiding anything resembling what we need. The truth

House feathers

I really like how he completely avoided the aspect of JWR’s testimony that addresses the upcoming election in QC and how Telford reminded her that they needed to be re-elected.

Voters in the ridings for the Luberal MP’s of the committee need to remember them at election time

From HOUSEFATHER? lol Pigeon faced little worm wouldn't tell the truth if his life depended on it

Another non partisan pos

What a sham!

Housefather - Horsefeathers.

Liberals are hoping that all Canadians follow a nice German tradition

AHousefather - you mean the guy who was to be chairing a nonpartisan committee in search of the truth that rolled his eyes for all Canadians to see? That guy is going to tell me what I need to know? 🙄🙄🙄 cndpoli

To think he actually feels better writing this and trying to justify the committee. Lets have her out first, we then bring in the others to debunk her and close the case. Our interpretation wins. CdnPoli October2019 AHousefather

Ok now that CEO of SNC confirmed that Trudeau lied about job losses do you want to re think your findings?

Lol, they guy who blocks Cdns for asking if shutting down the justice committee to prevent proper investigation of the PMO, is obstruction of justice on the Liberal MPs part? Thanks, I believe I've heard and seen quite enough from this guy. (Seems the feeling is mutual too.)

AHousefather You are trying to shift the narrative and take credit for trying to change the laws your party broke. The Liberals tried to exploit the AG-PMO relationship for partisan purposes, not jobs, and shut down the investigation. Your party lacks integrity and credibility.

Hey NP! Why are you giving this dirtbag a platform? He’s crooked

AHousefather Thanks for mansplaining what I need to know according to the liberal_party. It still doesn't tell me what I want to know as a Canadian SNCLavalin LavScam cdnpoli

Did the Post publish this to get a piece of the $595 million media bailout?

Did he write this before or after SNC debunked the 9000 jobs claim AHousefather

JWR in a nutshell. She wanted a higher office and failed at getting it. Now she will have to pay the price of that... cndpoli

Would we expect this liberal_party dork to have any other opinion? Not if he wants to keep his job.LetHerSpeak LavScam

It would be magical if he was to share a prison cell with Justin.

What a complete load of garbage. Housefather will go down in history for this.. and not for the good of Canada.. LavScam

incompetence

Criminal law at core of SNC-Lavalin affair rarely appears in Canadian courtsSince its passage in 1999, the Corruption of Foreign Public Officials Act has delivered charges against only four companies and 15 individuals, stemming from seven investigations '...the United States is a leader in enforcement and notes it has had deferred-prosecution agreements (or DPAs, another label for remediation agreements) since 1977 and they may be one of the reasons why the U.S. has been more successful at enforcement.' Do ppl understand this? The PM and his cronies Commit a crime, Obstruction of Justice, stop investigations into it with their Majority, spit on Canada’s Rule of Law and Democracy, refuse to call witnesses, and let their own testify NOT under oath, then SHUT DOWN the only KANGAROO TRIAL they would allow!
