Andrew Scheer resigns as Conservative leader GlobePolitics

Leader of the Opposition Andrew Scheer rises during Question Period in the House of Commons Tuesday December 10, 2019 in Ottawa. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Adrian WyldAndrew Scheer has decided to resign as Conservative leader after a disappointing election loss and facing internal party divisions over his ability to lead the party.

Mr. Scheer made the announcement in the House of Commons on Thursday after calling a special caucus meeting earlier that morning. He said he has asked the party’s governing council to immediately begin the process to elect a new leader.Mr. Scheer has offered to stay on as leader until the party elects a replacement. However, the party constitution says it is up to caucus to make that decision on an interim leader.

The decision comes as former Conservative cabinet minister John Baird has been briefing Conservative MPs about the party’s election campaign this week. Mr. Scheer won the leadership of the party in 2017. He faced vocal opposition to his leadership from multiple regional and ideological factions within the party in recent weeks after the party lost the October election.

globepolitics pierrepoilievre for Conservative Leadership

globepolitics A genunine good guy, but just not in tune with the centrist policies needed to get elected in this day and age. Anyone too far to the right is going to be banished by all the left wingers.

globepolitics ....cough... cough.... I think you might have missed one aspect of the story....

MarkLautens globepolitics I wish there were more conservative leaders capable of feeling shame, particularly in the US...

globepolitics With only 50% support from his members, his last message to his troops is to remain united! Wow! What a leader

globepolitics For his role in smearing Maxime Bernier and PPC voters, he got what he deserves

globepolitics Hurray

globepolitics He never was conservative leader. He was centre left...Twin of Justin Trudeau. Good.

globepolitics As much as I and most of the nation loathe TwoFacedTrudeau, Scheer lost an election that was virtually unlosable, to a corrupt clown no less.

globepolitics

globepolitics 👏👏👏👏👏👏

globepolitics Thank goodness for Scheer’s resignation. Finally this goof has realized he is ruining Conservative party by staying on. Let us now hope Conservatives choose a good leader like Lisa Raitt who should have been chosen in the first place.

globepolitics Good news for the CPC.

globepolitics Will he still give up his American citizenship?

globepolitics this just waste of time and bad decision

globepolitics Yesssss
