Scheer says he’ll create a single corridor of energy infrastructure across the country that would simplify the construction of new pipelines

Canada’s opposition Conservatives, leading in the polls ahead of October elections, will seek to make the country oil independent within 10 years if they win power, the party’s leader said Thursday.

Canada has enough oil “to put an end to all foreign oil imports once and for all,” Scheer said in a keynote address in Toronto, part of a string of planned speeches in coming weeks to roll out policy positions ahead of the vote. “An energy independent Canada would be a Canada firing on all cylinders.”

Without providing details, Scheer pledged to repeal pipeline and oil shipping laws working their way through the Senate, and cancel federal levies on carbon introduced earlier this year by Trudeau. He also promised to establish clear timelines for regulatory approvals and “assert federal jurisdiction when necessary,” ostensibly a nod to more forcibly pushing pipeline projects through construction.

The problem with Andrew Sheers plan to be energy self sufficient by 2030 is that it will not be renewable energy. Andrew and his provincial leaders favour oil and coal. 18 coal fired energy plants in Alberta to be utilized longer. Coal or climate change where do you stand Andrew

It would be about time should have been done years ago

Extremely accomplishable , should be a no-brainer

He wont do that by just sticking to oil. Oil is the dinosaur of energy. Scheers party is the dinosaurs of Canadian politics. Time to flush them like the turds they are.

Sounds like a promise that won't be met, or at the very least hurt Canadians in an effort to be met. NotLookingForwardToIt

Isnt that like 3 pipelines and 4 nuclear plants?

We do want clean energy. Protect the environment. Go to Northern Alberta and look at the polluted lakes and abnormalities in the frogs and fish as well. Energy independence should not be at the expense of damaging the pristine waters along B.C. coast.

'a single corridor of energy infrastructure across the country' = sounds like AndrewScheer wants to SOCIALIZE our energy.

Hey wait a minute that makes sense....here comes the criticism in 3-2-1.....

LarryMillerMP This is attainable and frankly should have been done decades ago. Build the pipelines.Shut off the Saudi, Venezuelan oil supply. Work with the Irvings to build up a dessimated New Brunswick and clean up the horrible mess started by Pierre and turned into a clusterf*ck by Junior.

Looks like he was ready to unveil his plan for the environment after all!

Canada has the 3rd largest oil reserves in the world. It's an absolute disgrace that Canada isn't energy independent now.

Hot air is not a good source of home heating, Andy.

aaawwe did you read that statement written for you by the oil industry all on your own?! good boy!

Maybe Meberta should go out and make a deal. Kiss some provincial ass and get it done. Bend over a little. Hurts doesn’t it. They want their cake and to eat it too.

BuildThePipeLine

What a puppet. When PET proposed the same thing in 1980, Alberta cried like a bitch. Now, because they’re still crying about all the other provinces who they disregarded years ago, schmeer is going to be their champion. Won’t happen unless he uses the Notwithstanding clause.

Should have been years ago. Come on Quebec, stop buying oil from Saudia Arabia.

And women’s rights gone by 2020 HandmaidsTale sameshitdiffrentCPCdouche halfaminute man AndrewScheer everyone! womensmarch he will “support” women and girls..

Scheer’s Economic Pitch: An Energy Corridor To Get Pipelines BuiltAndrew Scheer pitches energy corridor to get pipelines built No thanks, not if he threatens to cut-off supply to Canadian provinces. If he is going to engage in exertion and strong arming tactics against captive customers, them I'm afraid we must insist on healthy competition in the sector. BC can't afford the concentration risk! This is a red herring that his media backers keep pushing! It’s DOA! Provinces and indigenous groups are calling it a “pipe dream”! There are also vows of years of legal battles but those that love CONservatives will keep throwing this out there!! That would be believable if there were the refineries to process heavy oil in the East, but there isn’t and it makes no sense investing them now, this late in the fossil fuel game. So the pipelines would be for export, just as they’re planned to be.

Scheer Calls Trudeau 'High-Carbon Hypocrite', Plans To Release Climate PlanTrudeau and Scheer really don't see eye to eye. Canada is in a position to take action so it should. Cannot worry about what others may or may do as we must lead by example. Unfortunately it will be a tax of some sort - Carbon Tax or Cap and Tead, these are methods that work, not straight corp welfare.

CTV QP: Scheer on Norman case, climate planConservative Leader Andrew Scheer promised that his environmental plan will be 'comprehensive' but wouldn't say if it would meet the Paris accords. Watch the full interview here: cdnpoli Not to worry about Paris Accord.liberal_party won't be even close to reaching the goal they set for themselves and neither will any other country. No political will left, since the goals were unattainable to begin with. There was a time we prayed to gods and sacrifice humans for climate change... now we sign accords and sacrifice livelihoods.... End result is the climate still changes The liberals climate plan is shortsighted and the Paris accords are unattainable canpoli Don't care about Paris Accords. No one is meeting them anyway and never had any plans to do so. I would be interested in seeing his plan though. Be interested in seeing a comprehensive plan from all of them. So far no politician or party has produced one.

Scheer Says He Wants To Scale Back Canada's Mortgage Stress TestThe Conservative Party leader says he's 'absolutely committed' to reviewing the rule. I love how this article refers to the ridiculous stress test as the rule that the 'policy makers' created. Why not just say the liberals or Justin Trudeau? Biased much?
