American Airlines retreats after blaming a 9-year-old for not seeing a hidden camera in a lavatory

FORT WORTH , Texas — American Airlines has distanced itself from a court filing in which the carrier said a 9-year-old girl should have noticed there wasof luring girls to use the lavatory after taping his iPhone to the toilet seat. The 9-year-old's family flew from Texas to Californialast year and sued the airline after the FBI told them that videos of the girl were found on the flight attendant 's phone.

Lawyers for the airline amended the filing Wednesday in a state district court in Austin, Texas. The new filing is shorter and deletes the accusation that the girl caused her own injuries.who was later fired by American, pleaded not guilty this week to attempted sexual exploitation of children and possession of images of child sexual abuse.

The philanthropist behind the University of Manitoba's largest-ever personal donation — $30 million — has denounced a speech made by a valedictorian for medicine grads and admonished the university for letting it happen. In a letter dated Monday, Ernest Rady says he was hurt and appalled by the remarks by valedictorian Gem Newman at the May 16 convocation for students from the Max Rady College of Medicine. The school was renamed in honour of Rady's father after the 2016 donation.
