OTTAWA – The Liberals agreed Monday to have Canada’s Ambassador to China, Dominic Barton, speak before a new parliamentary committee examining the relationship between the two countries.
Conservative MP Todd Doherty said there are urgent, pressing issues on the Canada-China relationship and waiting doesn’t make sense. Liberal MP Rob Oliphant, the parliamentary secretary to the foreign affairs minister, said he hoped committee members take into account the risks Spavor and Kovrig are facing.
China has also banned Canadian canola imports leading to major issues for Canadian farmers. Doherty said that can’t continue.
