All those selfies are making you look insecure, study says

Published Thursday, August 22, 2019 9:05AM EDTThat’s the message from researchers in the U.S. who concluded that Instagram users who post a lot of selfies are “almost uniformly” perceived as less likeable and more insecure, compared to Instagrammers who share posed photos taken by someone else., analyzed hundreds of Instagram posts to determine which ones generated snap judgments about a user’s personality.

Barry worked with WSU psychology students and researchers from the University of Southern Mississippi to analyze Instagram posts and personality questionnaires from two groups of students. Those who posted more selfies were rated more negatively than those whose feeds included more “posies.”

I take a lot of travel photos but try to keep the selfies to a minimum. I think most folks would rather see a sunset in Hawaii - such as this one at Napili_Kai, than to look at my face.

Selfies on Facebook act as a way of sharing photos, a diary and a photo album for me. Others have choice to view or not. Seem to get a lot of likes.

I see nothing wrong with people sharing their photos if it makes them happy. I am not an attractive young person, and have no need to do it but I have been inspired to go hike a trail or see a place because of other people’s sharing. If you think insecurity it’s on you.
