Alberta’s United Conservative government is cutting the minimum wage for students under 18, an attack on a key policy championed by the previous NDP government, which is seeing its legacy quickly undone under Premier Jason Kenney.
Mr. Kenney said increasing the minimum wage in the middle of an economic downturn hurt small businesses and made finding work more difficult for young people. He said the change is aimed at high-school students who work part-time during the school year and have jobs during the holidays. Mr. Kenney said the government will appoint a task force to review whether Alberta should also have a lower wage for liquor servers.
This is discrimination based on age!
Good. NDP had no business forcing private companies to give students a crazy 50% pay hike. Why doesn’t The a Glob and Mal give THEIR employees a 50% raise...

As someone who is getting paid $15 an hour, I don't like seeing this. As someone who has many friends that are jobless, I like to see it. I think it's fair

Minors aren’t subject to the same contractual obligations as adults. They should accordingly be paid less.

If they are doing the job, why should they be paid less than the person beside them doing the same job, simply because of their age? And dont use the excuse they don't pay rent etc. There are 25 year olds living at home with their parents not paying rent.
Cutting the added costs passed on to the consumer. In the same way getting rid of that fraudulent carbon tax makes everything cheaper.

It’s an entry level job for the unskilled. Minimum wage is discriminatory anyway. All those whose value is less will not have a job and it sets the bar low for everyone else.

This is a great for small business between 9% increases in both CPP & EI and wage increase I had to let employees go now I can bring them back already made the call to some previous teen employees and they r excited to come back .
