Alberta records nearly 1,000 opioid deaths as of August, but signs of progress hold

According to the province’s Substance Use Surveillance System, 94 Albertans died of an opioid-related poisoning in August. This is on par with the same time period in 2021, when 969 deaths occurred.Of the deaths confirmed so far this year, 705 were male and 271 were female.
