Medical associations are concerned that cases of two preventable diseases are climbing. Alberta pharmacists are requesting permission to offer measles vaccines.

Dr. Isaac Bogoch, an infectious diseases expert, sheds light on Canada's dwindling measles vaccine supply and its impact on potential outbreaks. He also offers insight into a vaccinated Ontario teacher who contracted measles and updates the current situation and its implications for public health.There’s been increase in people seeking out measles vaccinations this year in Calgary, several local pharmacists told Global News.

“Typically, pharmacists have not had access to vaccine stock, so we are relying on private stock,” said Randy Howden, president of the Alberta Pharmacists’ Association.“At this point in time, there is no private stock available from our warehouse and we are being told that may not change until the end of April or May.”

The association has been asking the province if there is a possibility of having access to all public health vaccines. The public tends to like coming to the pharmacy.
