After failing to reach his son Scott to wish him a happy birthday, Glen Grier started searching online for his name along with Victoria, B.C. The second hit was Scott's obituary.

Glen Grier says it would have been hard enough to learn of his son’s death 10 months ago from Victoria police or the B.C. Coroners Service.

On Jan. 18, Grier and his wife, Michelle Grier, tried to reach Scott to wish him a happy birthday. Scott had struggled with addiction for four or five years. The last time they saw him was in the fall of 2019, when his father put him on a bus from Calgary to a healing centre in Sicamous. But Scott got twitchy by the third week, left the centre and made his way to Victoria.

Grier just wasn’t feeling right and started his usual searches. At 9 p.m., he decided to Google “Scott Grier, Victoria, B.C.” The next day, the coroner said they had Scott’s fingerprints and confirmed he had died from a fentanyl overdose. He collapsed on the street and couldn’t be revived. He and Michelle are still waiting to find out why they weren’t notified. Glen’s name and phone numbers were on the missing person’s report and he’d received a phone call when Scott was found.

“Yesterday was a beautiful day and the snow was soft, like snowman’s snow, and she wrote ‘I miss Dad’ and drew some big hearts in the snow. It was so sweet,” said Glen. Victoria police have begun a file review to determine if officers could have taken additional steps, said Const. Terri Healy.

Alberta police chiefs condemn violence by Memphis officers in death of Tyre NicholsFootage of the beatings was released Friday showing officers holding Nichols down and taking turns punching him as he called for his mother. Why doesn't he condemn the CBC for defamation against Daniel Smith. Why don't they stick to their own knitting? Every police chief who thinks the situation with Tyre Nichols is abhorrent can sit down and shut the fuck up. Policing here is no better. There's a reason why hiring new recruits is hard, very few want into the regimented bullshit...unless they're on the edge of psychosis.

Number of people leaving B.C. for Alberta reaches 20-year highThe number of people moving from British Columbia to Alberta has reached a 20-year high, according to the latest data from Statistics Canada. Probably because even with 10-15 years of immaculate rental history you still can only find a place if you’re lucky. Even harder if you’re single or have a pet Hmm seems to be a bit more conservative in Alberta... i wonder if there is any correlation... The BCNDP failed this province in every single way.
