‘If you do not respond accordingly to our demands, Alberta will be forced to consider additional legal recourse to ensure that this unlawful tax on Albertans is removed’

The Alberta government is demanding that the federal carbon tax no longer apply to the province after the Alberta Court of Appeal ruled the tax unconstitutional because it infringes on provincial jurisdiction.

Schweitzer’s letter acknowledges that the Supreme Court is scheduled to rule on the carbon tax soon but, nevertheless, urges the federal government to abide by Monday’s decision in Alberta. On Monday, Teck Resources withdrew its application for a $20 billion Frontier oil sands mine in the northeastern part of Alberta after an intractable public debate about the project.

On Monday, Kenney lauded the Alberta Court of Appeal decision as a “great victory for Alberta and a victory for Canadian federalism.” Environment Minister Jonathan Wilkinson said on Monday that the Supreme Court will make the “ultimate determination” and that he’s confident the law will pass the test.

Kenney. just stop collecting it. Tell Ottawa to f*** off. Plain and simple. You don’t have to beg anymore. Just do it. And while you are at it, call a referendum for independence so we can get on with our own agenda, not the Laurentian elites.

Sorry Kenney, the Supreme Court will deside the fate of this carbon tax. Your whining isnt going to make it any different. But hey your supporters are welcome to protest!

“The federal government is not the parent; and the provincial governments are not its children,” the decision reads. Well when jkenney behaves like a spoiled child, someone has to be the parent to keep him in line. Good luck with the Supreme Court, Jason.

Just. Don't. Pay. It. Do you control your chequebook or did you give the federal Liberals auto-debit access to your account? I sure hope not, because they'll behave like a fitness club if you try to cancel it.

Please take Saskatchewan with you.

Exactly. Trudeau lost . Now take his shorty tax and get the fuck out of Alberta.

The Carbon Tax is just another LPC Tax to help fund their ill conceived plans and programs. Do you really think JT is going to give it all back you as a Tax Rebate ... dream on ... keep drinking the red Kool Aid!

Or we could just wait and see if the Supreme Court of Canada over rules Alberta. Alberta asked the high court to rule, so let’s do it right. Or does ‘rule of law’ only apply when it’s in Alberta’s favour?

Yea, right. Not so quick Jason.

It is not Over and Out, yet...

Teck: Alberta needs to get serious about climate change were pulling our pipeline plans. The next day: Alberta demands to be removed from federal carbon tax. Cool guys. cool.

Good move--one of the few tangible things Kenney has done to confront Ottawa.

Haha haha, good luck with that!

May as well let them out now that 10k jobs have been lost it looks like alberta is going green.

Now it's Ontario's turn

Seems fair.

It’s not a tax, u Tory dummies! It’s a rebate, which Albertans won’t be getting, thanks to numbskulls like NP and Jason Kenney!

Alberta needs out a lot of things to do with Canadadakistan.

START PROTESTS!!! THAT IS THE ONLY WAY TO GET OTTAWA'S ATTENTION!!!

Carbon Tax is not about the environment, the carbon tax is about Canada debt and interest payments on that debt. Carbon Tax gives .02 percent of money collected to carbon research/grants - the remaining goes to budget shortfalls Call it what it is.

Alberta court rules federal carbon tax is unconstitutionalThe decision, which is not binding, follows earlier decisions in Ontario and Saskatchewan and comes a month before a hearing at the Supreme Court of Canada Nice picture, is that poison that is coming out of the stacks? Tell that to TECK ! Yes, I love the judges comments. Would allow Ottawa enormous powers if held up. That’s what it’s all about in Alberta. Keep it the corrupt Alberta way. Even the judges are redneck Hicks.
