Starting Sept. 8, airlines will have to refund or rebook passengers for delays and cancellations even when the issue is something outside of their control,…

WestJet spokesperson Madison Kruger echoed Morrison’s comments and said government agencies like the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority and the Canada Border Services Agency, as well as airports and other parts of the system, should all be involved.Article content

“These new regulations are in place at a time when something like 60 countries in the world have completely done away with pandemic restrictions. We still face them so that’s another concern.”Article content“We want to see them as a kind of last resort and ensure that everyone gets to where they need to go.”

Data the government released on Thursday is showing improvement in the system. During the week of Aug. 1-7, 97 per cent of flights were not cancelled and 85 per cent of flights from the country’s largest airports left on time, up from 75 per cent in the first week of July.

Even more can still be done because Air Canada consistently breaks the gov rules and nothing is done, a watchdog line or something. It's just too easy for them to do whatever and the customers are left in limbo for far too long fighting for their rights

Okay airlines here is how it goes. CRY ME A FUCKING RIVER

Failing to provide service is no basis for a refund, say airline ”experts” 😄😥😡

Crew shortages, equipment problems, luggage problems, and supplies for the plane are 100% the airline's fault and they should be liable. Weather isn't in their control, but I don't think it's unreasonable for them to have to promptly rebook or refund cancelled flights for no cost

It is good they finally will have to compensate passengers but It could mean higher fares to flights which are already high and higher baggage fees and it could hurt smaller airlines.

You know what if I buy something from any other business and they do not deliver it I get a refund, whether they had to control of the reason why or not. It's their responsibility and the unexpected is a cost of doing business.

The sending of a resignation to the Speaker should trigger a by-election on a date certain. No constitutional reason why it couldn't.
