“I don’t think you can ever 100 per cent guarantee anything in life,” Babcock said when asked what he’d do if an NHL team came calling. “Lots of times I’ve said I wouldn’t do something, and the next thing I know, I’m doing it. But it’s sure not in our plans at this point, at all. We’re excited about the journey we’re on and what we’ve done.

Those verbal-abuse allegations created a stir when he agreed to be the Huskies’ volunteer head coach last season, part of a transition plan after the retirement of longtime bench boss Dave Adolph. But Huskies’ chief athletics officer Shannon Chinn praised his contribution on Thursday, saying his mentorship and leadership was “priceless” and that she would have been glad to have him return for a second season if he’d chosen to do so.

“The U of S thing was pure joy for me. I loved every second of it,” Babcock said. “When I met with initially, and we did the interview process, we were looking for the next head coach. When I committed to stay on, the idea was to help grow, and then when he was ready, to be done. That’s what we’ve got here.Babcock, who played for the Huskies in 1981-82, is not done with the program.
