The “virtual” hearings — for Tamara Lich, Chris Barber, Pat King, Tyson “Freedom George” Billings, and, most recently, Steeve Charland — have frequently hit the maximum capacity of 500 participants as Zoom sessions are flooded with protest supporters or curious observers.

The hearings have also presented a test of longstanding courtroom decorum — and tested the patience of the presiding judges — with lengthy court sessions featuring frequent interruptions, unwelcome interjections from the public gallery, reminders to place phones and other devices on “mute” and repeated warnings from the bench as some observers appear to be “live-streaming” the proceedings.

The hearing was already beset by several restarts as some key participants were shut out of the maxed-out session — including the proposed surety who was set to testify — and the chat function inadvertently remained open.Article content Paolo Giancaterino, senior director with the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa and a partner at LMS Lawyers, said the convoy-related bail hearings “have obviously tested the limits” of the courts’ capacity.

The Ontario government recently announced a five-year, $65-million plan to upgrade courtroom technology and access across the province, with increased videoconferencing capabilities, hardware upgrades, internet bandwidth upgrades and training and support for the judiciary and court staff.Article content

“There’s a solemnity to court proceedings. If you’re in court, you’re there for a serious matter and you have to maintain that decorum. You are dealing with people’s liberties and their legal interests,” he said. “It’s not meant to be a circus. It’s not a show.”

I would say the leaks need to be stopped ... Police leaks, court leaks, political leaks etc... Time to be better then this.

This should be a clear indicator of how often these people follow rules.

Opinion | Inquiry into Emergencies Act must be public and tackle the difficult questionsInquiry into Emergencies Act must be public and tackle the difficult questions. If the blockades of the “Freedom Convoy” and aftermath served to divide us, an inclusive public inquiry may be an opportunity to repair the rifts. Opinion Our government turned millions of us into enemies of the state who take up space and shouldn't be tolerated, Smeared us as Nazis because some random masked guy carried a flag near the protest. Now the Deputy Prime Minister knowingly marches with Nazi/Right Sector/Bandera banners. The only mistake Canadians made was thinking we were in a democratic country ! BECAUSE OUR Canada’s finance intelligence expert admits that Freedom Convoy donors posed no threat, we ask, what’s the real reason they were cut off from financial services? The agenda of the CONservatives has always been to divide Canadians. They have spent decades trying to divide us by pitting the West against the rest of Canada. Now they're using the pandemic to try and further their agenda. They should be trying to unite us, not divide us
