On Thursday, Mar. 31, Plante received an email out of the blue from a supposed recruiting company offering him a full-time, remote customer success manager position at a well-known company, Magna International. While there were some red flags throughout the interview and hiring process, Plante ended up happily accepting the job.

On Monday, he connected with the company’s IT department who told him they would be sending him office equipment. They said that Plante would need to purchase and order $6,000 worth of equipment with his own money, which they would then reimburse him for.Article content At this point, Plante said he and his wife were becoming suspicious. He contacted the company’s HR to try and figure out his start date, who his supervisor is, and what benefits would be included because they had not given him any specifics on the job. They never wrote back to him and did not respond to any of his questions.
