For the first time in Ontario, clearing an encampment has been found to be a violation of the Charter rights of the people living there, in a decision advocates say will set a precedent for Toronto, and elsewhere.denied the Region of Waterloo’s request to evict about 50 people from a Kitchener encampment, without adequate indoor shelter space.
The decision builds on cases in British Columbia, which have also found removing encampments infringes on Charter rights, under section 7. Greg Cook, an outreach worker at the Toronto non-profit Sanctuary, called the decision a “step in the right direction” and “precedent setting,” in light of Toronto’s ongoing shelter space shortage.

So camps that are burning down and killing residents, being used for drug use and have no sanitation are 'dignified, safe and compassionate' Yeah OK.
As long as the camps are in Ottawa, life goes on. Why doesn't the media foot the the temporary hotel bill?
Here we go
“Justice Michael J. Valente found that the region’s bylaw “violates section 7 of the Charter in that it deprives the homeless residents of the encampment of life, liberty and security of the person.” This covers the homeless but not the unvaccinated Super flimsy ruling
Then how was Ottawa ok?
Send the homeless to Ukraine
So truckers can just declare a homeless encampment in front of Parliament hill an the game is over? Neato! 😄😄😄
This is ridiculous. What is becoming of this country
That’s ridiculous of course vagrants can be removed
JohnTory better start funding/building shelters, otherwise Toronto's gonna be the next San Fran.
Well, if you thought things were looking grim in Canada before, they just got a lot worse.
