The police service's Independent Investigation Unit is investigating both shootings

WINNIPEG — A 16-year-old girl and a man have died after two separate shootings involving police officers in Winnipeg.

Smyth said a group of people swarmed the store Wednesday night, grabbed bottles and threatened staff. He alleged the thieves fled in a stolen vehicle. Manitoba’s Independent Investigation Unit said while officers arrested the passengers, an officer shot the teen who was driving. She was taken to hospital, where she died.

Manitoba authorities have been cracking down after an increase in brazen liquor store thefts. Last year, Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries CEO Manny Atwal said the stores were “under siege.” In many cases, groups entered stores, filled backpacks and bags and simply walked away. A liquor store employee was knocked unconscious in one such robbery last November.

Health officials announce 5 more dead of COVID-19 in B.C., 45 more infectedFive more people in British Columbia have died from COVID-19, health officials announced Wednesday, bringing the total number of casualties from the novel coronavirus in the province to 48. Hope these people aren't getting infected cause they think it's over. Stay at home until we are sure it's over. Better safe than sorry. 45positives out of how many tests? Bravo to Dr. Lisa Barrett who schooled 'doctor' Merella Fernandez about the obligation to stay home whether you test a negative or not. In an interview from Halifax, she was justifiably irritated as Fernandez editorialized about people being able to roam around once tested.
