Bunny World Foundation (BWF), a prominent Los Angeles rabbit rescue, is in desperate need of assistance after the Eaton Fire destroyed their primary adoption event location in Altadena. A prominent Los Angeles rabbit rescue , Bunny World Foundation ( BWF ), is urgently seeking assistance following the devastating Eaton Fire that destroyed their primary adoption event location in Altadena. BWF , an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue, relies on weekly adoption event s to connect rabbits with loving fosters or adopters. These gatherings also provide crucial hands-on training and mentoring for new bunny owners, teaching them how to properly care for domestic rabbits.
The fire has displaced BWF and left them without a space to host these vital events. 'We lost our adoption location in Altadena, and have nowhere to meet our adopters this weekend and do a workshop. We had the event scheduled for the 19th,' BWF founder and president Lejla Hadzimuratovic told City News Service on Wednesday. BWF has been working tirelessly to care for the displaced rabbits. 'We fostered out 80 rabbits from those who evacuated. We have 50 more to go,' Hadzimuratovic said. She explained that the Altadena resident who generously allowed BWF to use her backyard for adoption events had to evacuate all her pets, including six bunnies, due to the fire. Kim Hallinger, the homeowner, shared her experience with CNS: 'As the embers were raining down on us, my husband and I fled our 101-year-old house on New York Drive on January 7th.' Although her house remains standing, it is currently uninhabitable due to toxic air and water. Her husband stayed behind to protect their home from further damage and looters. BWF volunteers are currently caring for over 300 rabbits, including those displaced by the fire, as well as those from the Brentwood area who needed temporary shelter. 'We also have fosters who are under semi-evacuation orders, it's touch and go,' Hadzimuratovic said. In the face of this crisis, Hadzimuratovic expressed her deep gratitude for the outpouring of support from across Southern California and beyond. Rabbit Haven in San Francisco mobilized to send supplies, and a crew drove a truck from San Jose with starter kits for fosters. Special Bunny Rescue in Washington state also lent a helping hand, while Sherwood Pet Health provided a generous donation of rabbit pellets. Locally, over 100 people attended a recent BWF event in Torrance, with volunteers traveling from as far as San Diego and Riverside. 'I am so overwhelmed. Lots of compassion, lots of charity, lots of goodness came our way,' Hadzimuratovic said. 'Lots of solidarity. The village came together.
