The Suffolk County Police Department has identified the body of Brittany Kritis-Garip, 32, found in the Long Island Sound as non-criminal in nature. She was reported missing last month after reportedly jumping from a moving vehicle in a panicked state.
Suffolk County authorities have officially identified the deceased woman discovered floating in the Long Island Sound as 32-year-old Brittany Kritis-Garip . The discovery was made in Lloyd Harbor on April 13. According to the Suffolk County Police Department, detectives have concluded their initial investigation and believe the cause of death was non-criminal. Kritis-Garip, a resident of Oyster Bay, had been reported missing approximately a month prior to the identification of her body.
Her disappearance garnered significant attention, especially after reports emerged detailing the circumstances under which she was last seen. Fernando Garip, the victim's husband, shared with News 12 Long Island that Brittany had been experiencing a state of panic. He described an incident where she abruptly exited a moving vehicle, discarded her mobile phone into nearby shrubbery, and subsequently fled the scene on foot. Adding further clarification to the events leading to her disappearance, Brittany's brother, Niko Kritis, informed Patch last month that she had unexpectedly exited a family member's vehicle shortly after it had stopped at a stop sign. The search for Brittany, which had been active and widely publicized, concluded tragically. Niko Kritis posted a somber update to a Facebook group specifically established for the search efforts. In his heartfelt message, he announced, The search for my sister has come to a close. With heavy hearts, we share that Brittany has been found and has passed. We take comfort in knowing that God has called her into His care, and that she is now at peace. He further conveyed the profound impact Brittany had on those around her, stating, Brittany was, and will always be, a light in the lives of everyone she met. Her warmth, kindness, and spirit left a lasting mark on so many people. That light does not disappear—it lives on in all of us who knew and loved her.
