Freedom 250 visits the Panhandle during its trip across the United States.
BLOUNTSTOWN , Fla. - Buses loaded with students arrived at the Calhoun County Library to get an interactive glimpse into America’s past. The Freedom 250 fleet is made possible by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
It is a part of President Donald Trump’s initiative to celebrate America’s 250th birthday, said Wendy Eubanks, the director of Calhoun County Library.
“We’re already very patriotic, I feel like in the Panhandle, and this is just one more example of how much we love our country,” Eubanks said before continuing. “We’re super excited that President Trump commissioned this. ”“There’s six fleets of trucks that are traveling across the country, and so we’re really excited to be one of the stops, and we’re the only stop in the Panhandle,” Eubanks said.
It’s also a learning tool they’re using as students prepare for their upcoming state civics test, said Georgia Hammitt, a civics and American history teacher.
“Is important to them, understanding why we are the way we are, why our government is set up the way it is,” Hammitt said.
