A Syrian refugee has been found guilty of raping and sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman in a locked beach toilet after offering her a ride home.
Mohammed Abdullah's victim burst into tears as the verdicts were read out at Bournemouth Crown Court today, as Abdullah was told prison was 'inevitable'. The young woman was walking home alone on Bournemouth seafront after a night out in the early hours of July 6 last year when she encountered a group of men, including Abdullah.
The court heard that her phone had died, and she asked the group to look at maps on one of their phones so she could tell where she was going as Abdullah offered her a ride home on the back of a hired bike. Abdullah rode a short distance before stopping next to some portable toilets on the promenade and dragging the young woman towards them.
He sexually assaulted her before he bundled her into the toilet, locked the door and raped her. Afterwards, Abdullah cycled back towards his friends, while the woman, who is now aged 20, flagged down a stranger and used his phone to call her mother and told her, 'I've been raped.
' Abdullah, who came to the UK in 2023 with his family, denied that he had raped the woman and claimed they had consensual sex. However, he was found guilty of both charges by a jury after an eight-day trial.
Mohammed Abdullah, 19, has been found guilty of raping and sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman in a beach toilet in Bournemouth Abdullah, who came to the UK in 2023 under a family reunion scheme, will be sentenced in July The young woman was walking home alone on Bournemouth seafront after a night out in the early hours of July 6 last year when she encountered a group of men, including Abdullah Judge Robert Pawson adjourned sentencing for reports but remanded Abdullah into custody. The woman had been on a night out in Bournemouth with a friend before they went their separate ways.
It was only then that the victim realised her phone had died, and she had no way of ringing a taxi, so she decided to walk home along the promenade. She then encountered Abdullah and his friends and asked if she could look at maps on one of their mobile phones to see where she was going. One of the group said Abdullah would give her a ride home on the bike.
The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told the court she whimpered like a 'puppy dog' and was crying during the attack. She said: 'I told myself something is going to happen here, I need to remember what I have seen, I just knew something wasn't right.
'I remember being pinned. I tried to fight a little bit. I couldn't really do anything, I was in shock.
'I was whimpering, like a puppy dog, when you are hurt. I was crying.
'He said"you like", obviously I said no but he wasn't listening. 'When I realised I wasn't going to be able to go anywhere I just gave up. I was just hoping it was going to be over.
'People walked past, I heard people, I tried to say something but nobody paid any attention. 'My face was towards the wall, I couldn't turn my face to look. ' Abdullah then bundled her into the Portaloo, locked the door and raped her. She said: 'I remember getting my arm grabbed and getting dragged into the portable toilet.
'He forced me over and lifted my skirt. I just froze.
'In the toilet I remember he said"you like, you like", I was saying no. 'I just allowed it to happen, I thought it would be over quicker that way. 'I didn't want to fight back too much and then his friends come. There were more of them than me.
'I thought just get through this and then you can get out of here and get help. ' Abdullah the young woman into the Portaloo, locked the door and raped her The victim said she was drunk and vulnerable at the time of the assault. She said: 'I feel if I had been sober it wouldn't have happened.
'I would have been able to protect myself more, push him off me more. 'I couldn't do anything, I was drunk, I was in a very vulnerable state. I was walking home by myself, I had no phone.
' Abdullah, who came to the UK in 2023 under a family reunion scheme, showed no emotion as the verdicts were read out. Judge Pawson said: 'Having travelled down from London with a group of friends, by unfortunate circumstance your path crossed .
'She had far too much to drink, it was late at night, she was on the beachfront in Bournemouth and on a whim you decided to take advantage of her. 'You deliberately took her further up the beach to the Portaloos, which in my judgment on the evidence you knew were there and knew were open. 'You locked her in the Portaloo and you raped her. 'The sentence has to be decided but it will inevitably involve immediate custody.
'The circumstances have changed given your conviction and I am going to remand you in custody. ' Abdullah, from West Drayton, Middlesex, will be sentenced in July.
