An Avon Fire Department employee, identified as McGoldrick, was arrested by the FBI and Medina Township Police Department on April 16th following the execution of federal search warrants. He is currently held at the Medina County Sheriff’s Office. The AFD has placed McGoldrick on paid administrative leave and is cooperating with the ongoing federal investigation. Authorities state there is currently no indication the charges relate to his employment or pose a threat to public safety.
FBI Cleveland said its agents teamed up with the Medina Township Police Department to execute two federal search warrants on April 16.The FBI said McGoldrick was arrested at his home without incident and is being held at the Medina County Sheriff’s Office on these charges:The Avon Fire Department said McGoldrick was immediately placed on paid administrative leave upon learning of his arrest.
McGoldrick is also prohibited from accessing all city facilities pending further review, according to AFD. “This action is consistent with department policy and standard administrative procedures,” AFD Chief David Swope stated. Swope said AFD is fully cooperating with federal agents during this active and ongoing investigation.Swope assured the community that all appropriate administrative actions will be promptly taken based on the findings of both the internal and external investigations.“We understand the public may have questions. Currently, there is no indication that the charges are related in any way to the employee’s duties or employment with the city. There is also no indication that the alleged criminal conduct occurred while the employee was on duty. These determinations remain part of the ongoing investigative process. At this time, there is no indication of any immediate threat to public safety related to this matter. The Avon Fire Department holds all employees to a high standard of conduct.
