The next NSW Police Commissioner is set to be decided in the next fortnight, out of three candidates running for the position, according to Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell.
The three candidates – Deputy Commissioners Michael Willing, Karen Webb, and Mal Lanyon – were being interviewed by an expert panel on the day of former Premier Gladys Berejiklian’s resignation in early October.“The frontrunner was Michael Willing, former homicide chief and deputy commissioner, with probably the most operational experience on the board,” Mr Clennell said.
“But he is being challenged firmly by Deputy Commissioner Karen Webb who, if she got the job, would be NSW’s first ever female police commissioner. “Perrottet is said not to have made his mind up yet but it shapes as one of the most important decisions of the early days of his premiership.”
