DOTHAN, Ala. - A Houston County grand jury has indicted former Lucy Volunteer Fire Department Chief Anthony Paul Westbrook on 64 theft charges, alleging he made dozens of unauthorized purchases using the department’s credit card.
Lucy is a small community a few miles east of Dothan and its fire department is operated by volunteers. Houston County deputies arrested Westbrook in December, accusing him of stealing about $26,000. The indictments made public on Friday did not immediately include charging documents, so it was not immediately clear if the indictments reflect a different amount. Westbrook’s arraignment is set for May 21. He remains free on bond while awaiting trial, which is tentatively scheduled for Aug. 17.
