The new owner said the facility will be the first fully independent living community of its kind in the area, distinct from assisted living or nursing care.

GENEVA, Ala. - A senior living facility that closed in December, displacing five residents, is set to reopen next month under new ownership. Amy Garrett is taking over the Geneva Independent Living Facility , a 16-bed community designed for residents 55 and older who can live independently but want 24-hour staff nearby.

Residents will have access to private rooms, housekeeping, activities, amenities, and help coordinating medical appointments — all while living independently. Garrett said the facility will be the first fully independent living community of its kind in the area, distinct from assisted living or nursing care. “My residence is free as a soul,” Garrett said. “They can do whatever they want as long as they are safe and they are doing it according to what they want. And at the same time, putting that smile on their faces. That is what I wanted to do.” Garrett said she has no connection to the previous management, which voluntarily surrendered its license before the facility closed in December.
