A next-generation version of the iconic World War Two fighter plane, the Aerolite Spitfire Type 433, has been built by a team of designers and engineers at the cost of buying an original at only £750,000. The new model introduces advanced composites and modern power systems, while maintaining the classic design elements. The Spitfire could go back into production 90 years after its first flight – if the dreams of a team of enthusiasts come true. A next-generation model , the Aerolite Spitfire Type 433 , has been built by designers and engineers at the cost of buying an original at only £750,000.
The team has revisited wartime government plans to use a composite alternative called Gordon Aerolite instead of aluminium for the fuselage to address diminishing supplies. The Aerolite Spitfire will tour Britain this spring and summer, showcasing at up to 10 air shows and other events. The CEO of Great British Supermarine Ltd, Jeremy Meeson, stated that the new design combines innovation with heritage, aiming to replicate the original Spitfire's exceptional performance through lightweight design, balance, and pilot connection.
This new version is an attractive proposition for private aircraft consortia. The team, led by David Spencer Evans, a former chairman of the Spitfire Society and the Spitfire Heritage Trust, is considering investors for the once-in-a-generation project
