PETALING JAYA: Around 4,000 chickens suffered a fiery death when the lorry transporting them went up in flames on the East-West Highway.
The incident, which happened at around midnight on Friday , led to losses amounting to RM80,000, reported Utusan Malaysia.
Jeli fire station chief Mohd Adni Ibrahim said investigations found that the driver, in his 30s, and a conductor were travelling from Lumut, Perak when the lorry encountered brake problems before a fire suddenly broke out. "The driver and the conductor were able to escape from the burning lorry before they called the emergency hotline.He said the station received the emergency call at around 12.15am before 10 firefighters and two vehicles rushed to the scene."Only 200 chickens could be saved, but 4,000 others were burnt to death.
