The New York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels played the middle game of a three-game series on Wednesday night at Angel Stadium.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone was ejected in the first inning of Wednesday night's game at Angel Stadium after arguing a controversial infield fly-rule double play.The leadoff hit led to a Yankees loading the bases with nobody out when Juan Soto and Aaron Judge walked.Giancarlo Stanton hit a popup right at the second base bag, Angels shortstop Zach Neto shifted over to make the grab, Soto ran into him while he was returning to second base.
If interference is called during an infield fly, the ball remains alive and until it is determined whether the ball is fair or foul. If fair, both the runner who interfered with the fielder and the batter are out. If foul, even if caught, the runner is out and the batter returns to at-bat. Manager Aaron Boone charged out of the Yankees dugout and argued along with first-base coach Brad Ausmus. Soto had a few words to say, as well.“I was probably a little offensive,” Boone said.
“So, obviously a tough way to start things when you load the bases there in the first inning and you’ve got a really good pitcher on the ropes. But by the letter of the law, probably the right call.”
