Despite popular belief, Yankees were active in trade talks

The general consensus seems to be that the Yankees weren’t active enough at the trade deadline. That’s not entirely true.

That’s quite a jarring comparison. Gallo will likely be remembered as one of the worst hitters in Yankees history. In 140 games between 2021 and 2022, the 6-foot-5 lefty bat slashed .159/.291/.368 and struck out 194 times in 501 plate appearances, an MLB-worse 38.7% of the time. These issues can be remedied, but Jones risks spending too much time in the minors — he just turned 23 years old and looks like he needs more time before advancing to Triple-A, let alone MLB. A comparison to Gallo, who’s hitting .180 between five teams since 2020, doesn’t help matters either.
