Summary A trailer for Y2K has been released, revealing details about A24's upcoming horror comedy that sees '90s-era tech get violent after the Y2K bug actually happens. In real life, the Y2K bug was a hypothesized coding issue involving the formatting of calendar data in computers, something that would have caused major issues for digital infrastructures around the world.
The trailer establishes teenage boy Eli getting invited to a party by his crush, Laura , only for technology to go haywire when the Y2K bug happens. Alongside his friend Danny , Laura, and other surviving kids from the party, the group tries to put a stop the tech from destroying the world.
However, after its premiere during SXSW in March, Y2K received mixed reviews, with critics praising the movie for a strong start, but saying it isn't able to keep the comedy funny and ideas fresh as the story progresses. However, since it's not going to be reaching theaters until December, it's possible some of these issues were fixed since the movie was first screened.
