I’ve been writing about video games, television and movies for Forbes for over 10 years, and you may have seen my reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. I cover all manner of console and PC games, but if it’s about looting or shooting, I’m definitely there. If I’m watching something, it’s usually science fiction, horror or superheroic.

Will ‘Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’ Be Able To Capture The Magic Of ‘The Goonies’ In A Galaxy Far, Far Away?Xbox may suddenly have more exclusive games than they know what to do with, and as such, there’s a bit of confusion about what might be coming out when as we stand on the verge of fall., Obsidian is about to announced a delay for its RPG Avowed, which was shown off this year in greater depth and had a vague, 2024 release date.

Part of that may be due to Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl which was delayed to November 20, 2024, an important late-holiday slot. This is also the first year the Xbox will be offering a yearly Call of Duty game as a part of Xbox Game Pass , Black Ops 6, which is out October 25, 2024. Another point of confusion is what’s going on with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which like Avowed, has only had a nebulous 2024 release date, and here in August, we have no further specifics. With big games coming to Xbox in both October and November , that raises questions about its placement. It does not seem like it’s about to debut next month in September, for instance, and December may also press the “too many things too close together” problem for Xbox.

It remains to be seen what expectations are for Avowed, and how Microsoft even measures this sort of thing anymore. It’s closer to AA size when comparing it to a traditional Bethesda RPG like Elder Scrolls, but Game Pass obscuring playercount and sales, we often just get whatever data Microsoft deems appropriate. If they give out none, that’s probably not a great sign.

I don’t think it makes a difference if it’s delayed until 2025, as I often appreciate early 2025 games more given that they have more room to themselves rather than needing to be juggled around a half dozen others out during the holiday. We’ll see if Microsoft says anything official soon. Our community is about connecting people through open and thoughtful conversations.
