Two Connecticut police officers were killed while responding to a 911 call that authorities said appeared to be a deliberate act to lure police there. A third officer who was wounded in the apparent ambush shot and killed the attacker, police said.

Authorities said Thursday, Oct. 13, 2022, they believe that police officers Demonte and Hamzy, who were shot dead in Connecticut, had been drawn into an ambush by a 911 call about possible domestic violence. A third officer, Alec Iurato, was wounded but expected to recover.
In a Facebook post Saturday, police in Bristol said Alec Iurato was hit by gunfire and returned fire on Wednesday, killing Nicholas Brutcher. The state medical examiner’s office said Brutcher, 35, died from a gunshot wound to the neck with spinal cord injuries.Sgt. Dustin Demonte and Officer Alex Hamzy were gunned down outside a home where they had responded to a 911 call about possible domestic violence that authorities said appeared to be a deliberate act to lure police there.
Hamzy, 34, worked eight years for his hometown police force. Like Demonte, he was an adviser to a police cadet program.
