German technology company Voodin Blade Technology partners with Indian OEM Senvion to test the world's longest wooden wind turbine blade in Europe.

Germany's Voodin Blade Technology has developed the world's longest wooden wind turbine blade, poised for trials in collaboration with Indian wind turbine manufacturer Senvion . This partnership aims to evaluate the feasibility, economic viability, and environmental impact of using wooden turbine blades. The project commences with a comprehensive feasibility study, followed by the installation and testing of prototype blades.

The trials are scheduled to take place in Europe at the end of 2026 and early 2027. Senvion will utilize its 4.2MW turbine platform to test Voodin's innovative blades.Voodin's manufacturing process, which bypasses the conventional need for molds, offers a 20% cost reduction compared to composite blades. The final blade length is yet to be finalized but is expected to exceed 50 meters, potentially making it the longest wooden blade ever produced. This collaboration holds the potential to address a key challenge within the wind energy industry—blade recyclability—by incorporating engineered wood, a renewable and recyclable material, into turbine blade designs
