Chicago firefighters removed a worker after he became trapped under the debris of a collapsed building Thursday in Bronzeville. The man was being rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center in grave condition.
The CFD responded to reports of a collapsed building in the 700 block of East Oakwood Boulevard at around 11 a.m.. One person was initially unaccounted for, the department said.
A Chicago fire official said there were three workers inside the building when it collapsed. The building is under construction, the official stated, but it’s unclear what type of work the people inside were performing. “They just said they were working and all of a sudden, the building just came down,” he said. “How that happened, we have absolutely no idea at this time. That’s gonna have to be investigated and determined at a later date.”
