SAN ANTONIO - The woman accused of abandoning her baby Tuesday afternoon along a Northeast Side highway has been arrested.
San Antonio Police arrested Julie Alexander, 37, and charged her with abandonment and endangering a child.The newborn baby was found around 3:30 p.m. along Austin Highway near Salado Creek Greenway. Police said when they arrived, they found a man with a baby in his arms. He told investigators that he found the baby alongside the road and called for help. He also said at about that time, he saw a woman, identified later as Alexander, leaving the area. He told investigators that he "assumed the child belonged to the female suspect, who left the newborn child at the location."
The child was found just a short distance away from a fire station where under Texas law, parents can surrender children under the age of 60 days, so long as they have not been harmed, to any fire station employee. Alexander was found nearby along Austin Highway. Police said she "showed signs of recently given birth."
