Winter weather alerts have ended in central Pennsylvania, but a storm system in the south could bring snow and frigid temperatures back to the region this weekend.

Winter weather alerts ended Monday evening across central Pennsylvania , with the storm’s effects confined to southern New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland. The rest of the week will be cold but mostly clear, with temperatures hovering right at or below freezing through Sunday, according to the NWS. Tuesday will be another frigid day with highs near 30, partly sunny skies, and up to 30 mph winds, and Wednesday will be a carbon copy of that.

Forecasters are saying wind chills Wednesday night could fall to near zero, with temperatures dropping into the mid-teens. Skies will be clear Thursday and Friday, with highs around 30 on Thursday and in the mid-30s on Friday. By comparison, the forecast for State College calls for flurries Tuesday afternoon into the evening and again on Wednesday, with highs in the 20s on both days and winds gusting 20 to 30 mph through Wednesday night.NWS forecasters are saying now that there’s a 40 percent chance of snow for Harrisburg after 1 a.m. Saturday, with 1 to 2 inches possibly accumulating this weekend. AccuWeather warns that if that storm crossing the southern states develops rapidly once it hits the Atlantic Ocean and turns north up the coast, it could bring a major winter blast to the region
