A winter storm is set to make landfall in Utah by Saturday afternoon, bringing accumulating snow to the northern and central mountains through Monday.
Forecasters with the National Weather Service expect the heaviest snow showers to occur in the mountains early Sunday morning and continue into the afternoon. Precipitation is projected to taper off by Monday. Once the storm passes, northern Utah mountains could see total snow accumulations ranging from 5 to 10 inches, with up to 15 inches possible in the Cottonwood Canyons. Central Utah mountains are expected to receive between 4 and 8 inches of snow.Residents in higher elevations should prepare for winter driving conditions and anticipate traction restrictions on mountain routes. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued from early Saturday, Nov. 23, through Sunday at 5 p.m.
Additionally, a Wind Advisory is in effect for southwest Utah until 5 p.m. Saturday. Areas including Cedar City, Milford, and western Iron and Beaver counties may experience gusts up to 50 mph. Residents are advised to secure outdoor objects and prepare for potential power outages and difficult driving conditions for high-profile vehicles.
