Down the stretch, Walker often struggled in the first inning before settling in and giving the Phillies some length. The 31-year-old finished 15-6 with a 4.38 ERA, throwing 171 1/3 innings in 31 starts. “We like Taijuan Walker. We expect he’ll be a really solid part of our rotation. I’ll never get upset when a guy wants to pitch and he ends up not pitching. He was in a tough spot. He’s not a reliever, he takes a long time to warm up, but you need somebody to give you length in extra innings and he ended up being the guy to do it.”
