Will Ferrell recently encountered a life-size, animatronic Buddy the Elf decoration and found the experience rather unsettling. The 'Elf' star was surprised with the viral holiday contraption, which resembles his iconic character from the beloved Christmas movie, by Craig Melvin and Savannah Guthrie on the TODAY show on January 28. Ferrell's initial reaction upon seeing the $199 animatronic elf, sold at Home Depot during the holidays, was one of disbelief.
He had previously seen stories about the replica and described it as 'disturbing.' Seeing it in person only heightened his unease. 'Oh my God, it’s Buddy the Elf, the ax murderer,' Ferrell exclaimed. The animatronic Buddy then recited one of Ferrell's famous quotes from the movie in a chilling, robotic voice, adding to the eerie effect. 'Why don’t you just say it? I’m the worst toymaker in the world. I’m a cotton-headed ninny muggins,' the animatronic Buddy said. Ferrell, visibly disturbed, remarked, 'It’s chilling. Is this the Halloween show? Here’s what’s crazy — someone signed off on that, and it wasn’t me.' Ferrell then playfully escorted the talking elf off the set, though Craig and Savannah urged him to take it home on his flight back to California. 'I think that'll fit in the overhead,' he joked. This encounter follows Ferrell's own holiday antics where he hilariously dressed up as a down-on-his-luck version of Buddy the Elf while attending a Los Angeles Kings hockey game with his family.
