For Variety VIP+ Subscribers: Why Netflix Games No Longer Has Its Head in the Clouds
planned for 2023 alone, streamlining access to its growing library within the core app itself versus the separate mobile app is a smart idea, as downloads of Netflix games on the app have been shown to fall when releases slow down, per Sensor Tower data.
Likewise, creating new AAA gaming properties is in line with Netflix’s roots. Rather than release more “Stranger Things” games or unveil a battle-royale spin on “Bridgerton,” it can apply the streaming-original branding to games with high-quality experiences that set its cloud operation apart from other cloud gaming competitors, where exclusive gaming experiences are shockingly absent to sometimes detrimental effect.
PlayStation and Xbox consoles do have exclusive AAA games, but their respective cloud services are only accessible through the highest tiers of their subscription services, with most subscribers preferring to download games rather than stream them.
