Kevin Stefanski is sticking with Deshaun Watson after the horrible loss to the Commanders.
LANDOVER, Md. — Kevin Stefanski refuses to blame Deshaun Watson for this mess off an offense, one that’s arguably the worst and most pathetic in the NFL.
Stefanski acknowledged that he contemplated pulling Watson before he did, with 2:28 left in the game and the Browns trailing by the final margin. He replaced him with Jameis Winston. The first series of the second half, after Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah forced Terry McLaurin to fumble on an end around and Martin Emerson Jr. recovered to start the Browns at the Washington 30 was emblematic of what’s wrong with this horrible offense. After two completions to Amari Cooper to the 2, a comedy of errors ensued.
“Honestly, didn’t even see the Jerry,” Watson said. “I honestly thought I misthrew it. I didn’t know he dropped it, so I thought that honestly, I thought that was my fault. But yeah, I mean the plays are there. We’ve just got to finish them. That’s the biggest thing.” Watson’s biggest takeaway was that the Browns need to find their offensive identity. In fact, he plans to sit down with the coaching staff and figure out what that is. The offense had already conducted a players only meeting, Watson said last week.
