A new survey finds that women report more job dissatisfaction.
HOUSTON — New research from Conference Board, a business research group, says overall, American workers are pretty happy, but that's not necessarily the story for women.
According to the Wall Street Journal, 62.7% say they are satisfied at work, the highest ranking since the survey started in 1987. There is a significant difference in the data when it comes to men and women. Women report less job satisfaction than their male counterparts. According to Axios, it is the seventh consecutive year that women said they weren’t as satisfied as men. Before 2017, men and women were fairly equal in the survey. That year also happened to be when the Me Too movement kicked off. The gap got even wider in 2020 when COVID closed schools and daycares, causing even more damage to many women’s work-life balance.
So, why are women still unhappy at work? According to the Wall Street Journal, the move away from remote work might be part of the problem. More companies are pushing workers to return to the office full-time. Also, the journal points out that informal paths to promotion often still benefit men. All this adds up to some women feeling overworked and underpaid.
