'It seems no one in power can look at this thing and question whether we’ve lost our minds,' columnist WarOnDumb writes about a new contraption being tested in some Alabama classrooms.

As alarming as it might be that local school officials would take something like this seriously, state officials seemed to take this thing seriously, too.

Since none of the folks at the event — including state and federal lawmakers and the state school superintendent — had the guts to tell these folks they were nuts, let me do the math for everybody else.Generally, class sizes in Alabama are not supposed to exceed 25 students per teacher. Let’s assume Alabama schools aren’t breaking the rules.

True, but we can’t afford nearly 30,000 bulletproof safe rooms, either, and someone who serves in the Alabama Legislature should be able to figure that out, but that’s not where Daniels stopped. Two generations ago, at the outset of the Cold War, President Dwight Eisenhower warned that an arms race with the Soviets would cost the people of both sides.
