Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Jordan Whitehead is set to return from Injured Reserve, providing a much-needed boost to the team's depleted secondary as they strive for a playoff berth.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are fighting for a playoff spot and the NFC South title in the final stretch of the season. A key player could be returning to help in their quest. After a 26-24 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, the Buccaneers announced that safety Jordan Whitehead has been designated for return from Injured Reserve . Whitehead suffered a pectoral injury in Week 12 against the New York Giants. He has 21 days to be activated back to the active roster.

Whitehead rejoined the Buccaneers this offseason after playing for them from 2019-21 and spending two years with the New York Jets. Before his injury, he had 47 solo tackles and three pass breakups. His return is a boost for the Buccaneers, who have been struggling with safety depth. Mike Edwards, another returning player, came back against the Dallas Cowboys after a hamstring injury. However, Antoine Winfield Jr. is dealing with a knee sprain. Whitehead's return gives Tampa Bay two starting-caliber safeties in him and Edwards. If Winfield Jr. recovers, the Buccaneers will have their full starting secondary. Whitehead's earliest return is against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, but the team may be cautious.
