Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie will be brimming with entrants in the Kentucky Derby Hat Contest on May 4.The first event of thoroughbred racing’s Triple Crown may be the “most exciting two minutes in sports,” but watch parties in Dallas-Fort Worth last all day with best dressed and most over-the-top hat contests, music, and specials on mint juleps, the Derby’s signature cocktail. The highlight of each event is the broadcast of the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby from Churchill Downs.
Horse races will stream in the Oak Room, and guests can enjoy live music, food trucks, bottle engraving and a photo booth. Admission includes one cocktail.A Day at the Race is the conservancy’s signature fundraiser that helps maintain efforts to preserve Turtle Creek Park and Arlington Hall. Guests should dress to the nines for Southern-inspired cuisine, an open bar, live music and dancing. Watch the Derby on the big screen and bid on upscale auction items at the Wagering Wall.
